PUBLIC INFORMATION

The Emergency Management Division of Anderson County Sheriff's Office understands the importance of effective communication and a strong relationship with the community and media. The Division partners with the media to connect with the community. Effective media relations and positive community participation are two vital components to the overall success of any public safety agency and its mission to serve the general public.

Request Form

The Emergency Management Division of the Anderson County Sheriff's Office will be transparent by providing fair and accurate information to the public and media in a timely and professional manner.

The Public Information Officer:

  • Is the main point of contact for the Emergency Management Division to assist the news media

  • Prepares and disseminates all Emergency Management news releases

  • Coordinates interview requests from the media

  • Arranges and coordinates press conferences, and conducts other media events for the Emergency Management Division

  • Manages the Emergency Management Division social media platforms

  • Assists with special projects and presentations about Emergency Management services and activities for community organizations

  • Oversees Freedom of Information Requests (FOIA) when submitted to the Emergency Management Division

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION

In accordance with the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), S.C. Code Ann. §30-4-30, et seq. (1976, as amended), persons have the right to inspect and copy public records.  FOIA requests for public records of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office should be directed to: Emergency Management Division - Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, ATTN: Public Information Officer, 200 Bleckley Street, Anderson, SC 29625.

FEE SCHEDULE

In order to help offset the costs of searching for, retrieval and redaction of public records from the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, the following fee schedule applies to FOIA requests and are subject to change:

Incident reports (prior 14 days):  $0.25 per page for black & white/$0.35 per page for color
under §30-4-30(D)(2) - in person requests

Hourly staff time:  $20 per hour

(If request requires specialized personnel, e.g., IT, legal, executive, etc., hourly rates could increase)

Copies of documents: $0.25 per page for black & white/$0.35 per page for color

CDs or DVDs: $5.00 per disk
(audio, video, photos, etc.)

USB Drive: $15.00 (up to 2GB)                                                                                                                      

(Large documents, audio, video, photos, etc.)

Postage: Postage and/or shipping may apply and will be in addition to other fees.

A deposit of 50% of the estimated costs for searching, retrieval, redacting and reproducing records may be required before searching for or making copies of records.  The full balance must be paid at the time of production of the records.

ADDITIONAL INFO

Inspection, copying and production of records are subject to all applicable exemptions, redaction, and/or exclusions provided by FOIA or other state or federal laws.  If public records are available and capable of electronic transmission by ACSO EMD, per page copying charges do not apply.  However, staff time for searching, retrieval and redaction will still apply.  Records not in electronic format may, at ACSO EMD discretion, be converted to and transmitted in electronic format; in such event there will be an additional charge for staff time for converting to electronic format.

This form is for your convenience, but not required.  Whether using this form or any other written request format, providing as much information as possible about the public records you are seeking will facilitate the Emergency Management Division's ability to completely respond to your request.

PURSUANT TO S.C. CODE ANN. §30-2-50, OBTAINING OR USING PUBLIC RECORDS FOR COMMERCIAL SOLICITATION DIRECTED TO ANY PERSON IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA IS PROHIBITED, AND IS PUNISHABLE BY A FINE OF UP TO $500 AND IMPRISONMENT UP TO ONE YEAR, OR BOTH.
